Shoppers Drug Mart Shoppers Drug Mart Surprise Points Event: Spend $75 and Get 18,500, 38,000 or 50,000 Points (July 26 through July 28) Surprise Points Event
get this dealHere's a unique points event from Shoppers Drug Mart. Starting on Saturday, July 26th, instead of offering you a set amount of points, Shoppers Drug Mart is testing your luck by giving you a Surprise Points Card when you spend over $75. Opening this Surprise Points Card will reveal whether you get 18,500, 38,000 or 50,000 points! Make sure you're gentle when you open the card, as if it's damaged and unreadable, you'll get 18,500 points by default.
Basically, you'll be automatically given the default 18,500 points at the end of your transaction. If you opened a Surprise Points Card that awards you more than 18,500 points, the difference will be added to your account on a later date. You may also need to answer a mathematical skill-testing question if you reveal an award of 38,000 or 50,000 points.
The following won't count towards the $75 purchase requirement: prescription purchases, products that contain codeine, non-pointable items, tobacco products (where applicable), lottery tickets, stamps, transit tickets and passes, event tickets, gift cards, prepaid card products and Shoppers Home Healthcare locations.
Each customer is limited to just one Surprise Card per transaction per customer. This offer cannot be combined with any other SHoppers Optimum Points promotions or offers.
This offer starts Saturday, July 26th and will end on Monday, July 28th.

View all$95 worth of stuff for $75 plus $40 worth of points isn't bad. Basically like I spent $75 for $135 worth of stuff and points. Most of it sale items that aren't any more expensive than other stores.
The person at the Cosmetics counter did not offer my aunt any card and we only remembered to ask after paying. She said that they were out of cards and that the system will automatically give the minimum points (18,500) and it did. I insisted that we should get a card from the other cashiers and finally she looked through a bunch of cards and gave my aunt one but it was the minimum points, so no need to redo the transaction. I was next and I asked for a card too. She gave me one but it was already open. So, I asked for another one and I was thrilled to see that it was 38,000 points. She did have to scan it and I got 18,500 bonus points and the rest to be credited later next month. For this shopping trip, I actually made money ($95 in points when redeemed on mega bonus redemption $100/40K) as I spent less than $80 including taxes. By the way, everything I bought were on sale too.
I might go back and stock up on pampers for my girl as its on sale.
Those points are worth more than the $100 you spent!
toobad, didn't get 38,000 or 50,000 points
Anything in the flyer that's good for around $95?
Edit: just looked and there isn't much for electronics this week...
Yes, but to be safe, buy $95 worth of stuff (ie $75 AFTER the coupon)
This is basically the same old 18,500 points for $75 spend promotion, and only giving 4.9% of customers an extra bonus.
That is 382 points per dollar.
and for the lower bound, I was wrong. You are right it is 432 points.
So valuation is $45.4 to $51
The expected value (EV) for this event is:
(176000/185000 * 18500) + (6300/185000 * 38000) + (2700/18500* 50000) =
17,600 + 1,294 + 729 =
= 19623 points (or 261 points per dollar)
How much is 19,623 points worth?
This is a little better than the regular 18,500 points promo at 246 points per dollar. If we assume that 382 to 411 points is worth $1, this the value of this promo is worth $47.7 - $51.37.
