    • oh man...thx OP.....I am in the market for a nice Tilley hat so this works out perfectly...

I just hope I can make it, most of my days are jammed...

If anyone goes and can get me a Tilley hat for outdoors (like the traditional one), I will pay for item plus extra for your time/help!

Man, if only they had the sale start on Fri Aug.10.... I am off that day!

    • I'm going to vouch for tilley hats
I have two of these hats, both are almost two years old and have gone through many situations with me, all over the world
They still look brand new, and fit great

    • Just to provide you with some feedback from the previous sale.

Bought a hat a year or two ago from a similar sale. It was around $30-35.
Got it out of curiosity and can confirm that it's a nice hat for the price I paid.
Would never pay the full price though.
Be aware that the full price hats carry a lifetime "whatever happens" warranty, including lost.
Warehouse hats DO NOT have this warranty.
The selection on the sale I've been was pretty poor (been on the second or the third day of the sale).
A dozen of hats for men/women, some selection of Tilley weird style clothings and a lot of camping/travel accessories which did not carry Tilley name, but were rather very cheap looking (think of Wallmart).
Can't really undestand the Tilley clothing style other than hats.
Not sure if my grandmother would wear something like that. Likely well made, but typically faded looking colors and extremely simplistic old-fashioned styles. I guess, I'm missing something there.

    • How do you take advantage of the lifetime "whatever happens" warranty?
Do you need to keep your receipt for 20 years?

    • It's always a good idea to keep the receipt, I believe you can also register your product.
They really provide a replacement hat if you come and report a loss.
      No questions should be asked.

Hats without warranty is pretty unfortunate. Though I have friends that have had theirs (grease covered, faded and spotty) for twenty years and still got a new one sent to them. The workmanship is second-to-none. So for that price, a hat is probably still a good deal.

You should register your info and the hat at time of purchase. That is all they need.

    • They had a presale today for existing customers that are on the mailing list - also tomorrow

The average age of people shopping today was 65!
About an hour to get inside and crowded inside
      Crazy crowded inside

Everything is made in Canada - I like that

Tilly hats are about $42 with all sorts of styles including the hemp but none of the organic cotton ones

    • Would love to go but don't think I will make it.

I have a Tiley hat from a warehouse sale - I have had it for quite a few years and love it. The only thing I don't like is it is very hot! So I find it great on cool and rainy days but not so good on hot sunny days to keep the sun off. They have other models that aren't so warm - either hemp ones or ones with vents at the time. I would recommend one of these for anyone whos head gets hot!

The model I got has a glasses loop on the inside. Mine does not have this from the seconds sale. And to show it is a second for warranty purposes they cut a corner of the size tag off.

    • Went to the Pre-Sale yesterday... it was a bit nuts... Somewhat disappointed in this year's sale versus previous years.

As mentioned, average age of people were 65+ so I was by far the youngest person there... and the only person who had colour as well.

The lineup was over 40 minutes long and in the rain yesterday and it was still ridiculously crowded inside. Not as much selection as in previous years. Didn't even bother looking at hats this time around since there were so many people, you couldn't physically see the tables of hats, only a throng of people! Ended up walking out without anything after 15 minutes of trying to squeeze through people.

      Good luck if you're going!

If the activity you're doing permits, take the Styrofoam float out of the hat. It's located inside the secret pocket in the crown of the hat. Not a wise idea if you're on the boat...as the hat will now sink. The new styles have a mesh around the crown rather than the grommets.

I just returned from 11 days @ Disney and my Tilley T5 saved me a few good sunburns! Orlando was 38C + humidex = 45C. Yes, I took the float of the hat before I went down.

The wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon is strong enough to knock a Tilley off, but only because you instinctively turn your back to the 5' tall wave before it hits.

Warehouse hats DO NOT have this warranty.
How do they differentiate between full price hats and warehouse hats?

I bought a full price T2 hat years ago. I'm now on my 4th hat and only paid once for the original hat. Sweat on the brow tends to cause the fabric to go brown. After some accumulation the fabric will tear easily. So if you happen to pull on the brim, the hat will separate. Just bring the hat back to the store and they will replace. No receipt required.

Hat design have changed over the years. Newer hats have sweat band to prevent accumulation on the soft fabric. Hemp hats are also more breathable than canvas.

These hats are highly recommended if you plan to wear it for years. I wear it when golfing. Much better sun protection than caps. Not to mention rain protection too. Throw on a Gortex jacket and you can still golf in the rain.

The size tag either has a corner ripped off or it is cut in 1/2.

I would like to get a hemp one or one with vents..but mine works fine for now!!
