i just rented from avis in orlando, even though i'm a hertz gold member, because I was doing a one way rental from the airport to my hotel in orlando. the total cost for one day one way rental is $50 and allows me to return the car at the hotel AND save on parking. a taxi ride would've cost $55+ and the mears shuttle would have taken forever, making multiple stops at multiple hotels, although it is cheaper to take the bangbus shuttle.
however not being an avis preferred member, i had to line up with the commoners at MCO. the line was only 5 people long but it took over 30 minutes to get to me. they took long because they tried to upsell every single customer. they also had to re-register all your information despite having supplied all that at time of reservation. by this, i mean they want your ID and they want to type in your address and info. then they make you go on their interactive ipad type device to accept/decline all their upsells, despite having already verbally declined everything when they went through upselling each item.
the features they were trying to upsell includes insurance, another insurance, and more insurance. this is on top of the LDW that i had already declined at time of reservation as per my company's policy. then they tried to upsell gps. and upsell fuel purchase option, as well as ezfill / ezgas which i don't know what the difference is.
the only real benefit for me as already mentioned was the ability to return the car at the hotel without having to pay for parking and only costing $50 for one day's rental. this was cheaper than my alternative, plus I was able to give rides from the airport and recoup some of that money. i didn't need the car for anything beyond that since the next few days will be spent at the hotel. for most vacationers, this wouldn't be a benefit since most people rent the car for the duration of their stay. in which case if I were to do it again, i would stick with hertz, since the 30% on $50 is only $15 (per day) and my time is probably worth more than that to spend a total of 45 minutes in line and declining their upsell.
perhaps this would be attractive to local rentals as well or to people who don't already have existing relationships/receive promos from other rental companies.

It always vary with time and location , I usually got 20% but I heard people are getting anywhere between 5% to 30%. YMMV

Location and timing make all the difference. If you're booking at a super-high-demand time or at a franchised location (versus corporately owned) the discounts may be non-existent.

- If I do a search for cars without any codes or coupons, avis gives you the additional option of "Pay Now", which is even cheaper than the lowest price offered for the same vehicle when using the coupon. For example, a 7-day rental of a standard suv is $209 using the code but $198 with no code but using the Pay Now option. Obviously, the drawback is that you're paying in advance so you lose flexibility and $$$ should you change your travel dates.
