    • Until they want to buy the toys and other goodies from the vendors which from what I've heard are marked up beyond regular retail. . I think would be better off posted as a freebie for anyone already going to the con.

    • I've been to the Fan Expo a few times and to be honest its because of the people I meet and the amazing costumes I see that I keep going back, however, its pretty much just a glorified Flea Market of stores trying to sell their stuff at regular prices and its embarrassing to watch actors watch people fork money in order to get 30 seconds with them. Not sure why this practice is condoned, but it cheapens it for me and why I haven't gone back for a few years. It seems like the Flea Market is taking over and well there really isn't that much to do rather then attend some symposiums and walk around and check out the people who dressed up.

It could be different now, but I highly doubt it, maybe someone who goes can share their experience with me.

I feel the same way. When I started going some 4 or 5 years ago it was really fun because everything was new to me, but the last time I went I realized I had more fun looking for the cosplayers rather than the actual event itself. Last time I went 2 years ago at the convention center, I spent most of my time in the main lobby area where all the cosplayers gathered. You didn't even need paid admission to access that area (I'm not sure if the layout remains the same this year).

One positive is you can see product you are buying before giving your money. I was looking at a Nendoroid Snow Miku last time I was at the expo, it was like really cheap (~$20) but then some guy beside me warned me it was a fake. Of course you could buy online from reputable dealers, which is probably still cheaper even after shipping.

    • I go every year but I'm gonna hold off this year. I guess I'm getting old. The only people I really wanted to meet this year are Kevin smith and jason memes.

I agree with all this. We went to the Star Wars one in Dallas in October. Son LOVED it, daughter HATED it. Got a picture with Lando...I think it was around $50 for literally 10 seconds with the guy. The best was Chewy who was doing autographs for about $20 included a personalized picture (signed), plus he signed Star Wars VI cover for us and let us take pictures etc. No pictures with Lando whatsoever expect the one they give you. Nice memory, but a rip off all the same.

    • It all adds up, admission, parking, the signatures( if your into that), toys, tshirtsbdbnhf. I usually spend about 5-600$ and I'm a pretty frugal dude.

    • Got to be joking. $45 a ticket for Saturday just to see people selling (probably overpriced) stuff?

    • If you want to buy stuff go on Sunday a few hours before they close. Most vendors are willing to deal rather than haul their stuff back to the store/warehouse/parents' basement.

    • Going with my kids this year. Love going as they usually have lots of stuff on sale I haven't seen before. Rarely fork over money to "spend" time with the stars as a parent I have better things to spend $50.00 on then 30 seconds with JAY+SILENT BOB.
Kids love it because they see people dressed up in costumes and lots of toys. Great that they let kids in free, saves me some money that I will eventually have to spend on stuff for the kids when I get there. I do agree that the prices are higher than what most have in the stores which is why I only buy them one toy each. Sometimes if I know something is on sale I'll give them an option(trick I learned from my brother).

      Option 1:
They get 1 high priced toy at the expo

      Option 2:
They get 3 (very low) priced toys at Walmart/Winners depending on which store has the good clearance deals on toys.

Most of the time they go for option 2(which is why their rooms are a mess) and it saves me lots of money in the end.
