Awesome deal for people living in condos and can't do it themselves, especially in Calgary where prices are outrageous.

    • Hi,
Midas Master Mechanic here! Let me tell you something about your car...
      - Your Air Filter needs changing, that'll be $40
      - Your Cabin Filter needs changing, the car will absolutely not run if you don't change it soon. That'll be $40
      - I took the liberty to flush your brake, trans, steering, and radiator fluids. That'll be $600
      - I suggest you go to this place to have new tires put on, and this place for new alignment. I do not know how much they charge but I am sure it'll be industry average.
      - You definitely need a rotation before you change the tires, that'll be $30.

You are absolutely sure you do not need me to swap out your engine for a better one?

I'm in the same boat. I recently discovered that Wally World does a full synthetic change for 65 bucks. Yeah, I know, it's WW, but they actually did a pretty decent job when I was in. I'd go back.

Haha! So true! They just want to lure you into their web. They won't let you go until you cough up more $$.

My Hyundai dealer is offering the same thing for $79.99. But they are throwing in two nice Hyundai-logo trunk storage units! And they won't harass me about useless extras.

Lol.. I think we have a psychic in the house lol. Reminds me of when when Mr lube tried to scare me into getting a fuel system flush at 24k km. When I refused tried to tell me there have been a lot issues with my car as a result of not getting this service and that in terms of my warranty I was "playing with fire".

just tell them, if you do the fuel system flush, your 2 children at home will most likely be starving this week.

Bingo. Reminds me of my last trip to Mr. Lube. Four people with furrowed brows worrying about the state of my engine, proclaiming that my oil was dirty and the engine needed a flush, plus a laundry list of things they said were required maintenance under my owner's manual. I was nice enough to just say my mechanic has that under control, and please continue with the oil change only that I had a discount coupon for.

Note for next time, if you you have power windows, roll them up before turning off the engine. The "service rep" took advantage of the open window to get way to close and personal with the sales tactics.

We took the liberty of upgrading your floor mats to the new "high compression" model, and applied new 3d stem lube on your tires, as well as your spare. That'll be an extra $400 please. Here's a complimentary newspaper and fridge magnet!

    • Of course it's a loss leader. Just refuse all the extra services and you'll be fine.

    • Why not just go to costco and avoid the hard sell, and avoid all the environment fees, disposal fees, this fees, that fees, and disgruntled technicians who didn't get the commissions on the refused extras. I don't want them working on my car.
      Costco all the way baby!!

Good point. Always forget Costco does oil. How much for unsynthetic oil and rotation at Costco anyways?

39.99 for Castrol GTX oil change...

    • ^ Not all Costco has oil change and theres the wait time.

Midas doesn't need the coupon afaik. I saw it advertised on a billboard.

    • Costco oil change is pretty expensive if you think about it.

Castrol GTX can be had for perhaps $12 for 5L.
      FRAM/Purolator Filter is between $5 to $9.
Assuming most cars require between 4.4L to 5.0L of motor oil.
Also assuming that Costco can probably get the filter+motor oil for much cheaper than we can.

      $12 + $5 - 20%(margin for parts) = $13.60

They charge you $39.99. That is a net profit for them of $26.39 per oil change. They can easily do a change per 10-15min.
